The purpose of Ohio Troopers Caring, Inc. shall be:
- To conduct the charitable activities of the Ohio Troopers
- To conduct the school and hospital programs
- To educate children of the dangers of drugs, alcohol and others substances
FACTS ABOUT OHIO TROOPERS CARING
- Original Caring Activities were done as a committee of the Ohio Troopers Coalition, which was formed in 1984
- In 1986, Ohio Troopers Caring was formed into its own corporation with its own Constitution and By-Laws but still acted as a committee of the Ohio Troopers Coalition
- The Executive Officers of the Caring Corporation were the Executive Officers of the Coalition until 1996
- All members of the Ohio Troopers Coalition are members of the Ohio Troopers Caring
- Ohio Troopers Caring is funded through the Ohio Troopers Coalition, telemarketing, and Drug Forfeiture Funds from seizures made by the State Highway Patrol of Ohio
- In 1996, Ohio Troopers Caring became a separate entity on its own with its own officers but remains tied to the Coalition and Combined Executive Board
- Ohio Troopers Caring is charged with conduction all charitable activities of the Ohio Troopers, conducting all school and hospital programs, and education of the dangers of drugs, alcohol, and cigarettes for children. It also promotes the use of seat belts and keeping children safe
- $1,000 per year is donated by Caring to each of the Children’s Hospitals in Ohio and each Director that has a hospital may elect to increase funds for his/her hospital through fund raising activities in the community
- Hug-A-Bears for each patrol issued vehicle is made possible by Caring. They are used to give to children involved in traumatic situations
- Teddy stars in our visual aid – The New Adventures of Teddy Trooper, shown in our school program
- Teddy also visits our Children’s Hospitals with uniformed personnel from time to time to bring a little cheer to those kids that are hospitalized
- Supplies for our School Programs are usually handed out to children as a constant reminder to Say No To Drugs. Pencils, rulers, erasers, etc, are a few of these, along with our New Adventures of Teddy Trooper Coloring Book
- Ohio Troopers Caring has reached into many different organizations over the years. The nine District Directors of the Ohio Troopers Coalition / Ohio Troopers Caring are encouraged to "Become involved in as many Children’s Charities as they see fit
- Caring has partnered with many special interest groups such as D.A.R.E., the Special Olympics, Ronald McDonald, McGruff, Children’s Miracle Network, Dream Factory, and many, many more. The goal is the same, to reach as many as possible to keep our children safe
